New Movie Releases on DVD – How to Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon Overview

A new movie releases on DVD that I saw most recently is Dreamworks Animation How To Train Your Dragon. It is the story of Hiccup and his dragon Toothless. In the story Hiccup has to overcome the disdain of the village for his incompetence and ends up helping an injured dragon that scares the other villagers but in the end helps Hiccup create the happily ever after ending.

How To Train Your Dragon Review

These New Movie Releases on DVD is directed by Christopher Sanders and stars Jay Baruchel as Hiccup. Also starring were Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Gerard Butler, Kristen Wiig, and Kieron Elliot. I found the animation in these new movie releases on DVD to be up to the industry standard, but nothing spectacular. There were moments that were not perfect but the vast majority of the audienece would never catch any of that. There were several things that I really enjoyed about the story line. First of all I really enjoyed that Hiccup the young boy was struggling with typical male stereotype expectations and Astrid the young girl is able to do things that were considered male roles like slaying the dragons and using all the weapons. In the end the story is not resolved by the boy becoming a dominant male but instead more traditionally female roles win the day with a more nurturing approach to the conflict and threats. The bigger theme and message of the movie is that culture often presents us with assumptions that color our view of reality and prevent us from changing and bettering things. In this Vikings Village the people assumed they knew why the dragons were killing and pillaging, but they find out that dragons are enslaved by the monster dragon and are in constant danger of losing their lives if they don't bring back enough kill. Only because Hiccups adventure with Toothless and Astrid are they able to change their relationship with the dragons and build a level of stability in their community.
